Earn-a-bike is a program for youth that may not be able to commit to the two-week or after school Build-a-bike program, allowing youth to build a bike at their own pace.
Through the Earn-a-bike program youth are invited to volunteer regularly at the shop during Drop-In Hours to earn a bike to build-up and access to the shop. Youth will earn their bikes by volunteering for 20 minutes to an hour each time they come into the shop before working on their own bike.
Volunteering tasks include helping others with their bikes, cleaning up the shop, and other activities based on what help is needed that day.
- Program is open to youth between the ages of 12-25 living in Regent Park, Moss Park, St. James Town, or youth without homes.
- To sign up for Earn-a-bike come out to a Volunteer Orientation on the first Wednesday of every month, drop by the shop during Drop-In Hours.
- Program Participants can attend Drop-In Hours on Wednesdays (4-6pm) and Saturdays (12-3pm) to volunteer and work on their bikes
- Participants must volunteer at least once a week in order to keep a hold on their bike.
Earn-a-bike participants will not only learn about bike mechanics, but will also be supporting Charlie’s FreeWheels through volunteerism.
